Broke down and busted, feeling disgusted
At losing my once-sacred fire
Like the horse in the story that was never-ending,
I'm feeling stuck in the mire
My friends all tell me not to be worried
That the moment will pass me in time
But I know I'll see you and you''ll have the same name
But your face will be different from mine.
Because it's
One, two, three times you left me
And
Four, five, six reasons why
I've got
Seven, eight, nine tears to cry for you
Before I find
My own perfect ten.
Gut-shot and bleeding, my hair-line's receding
I'm still getting older with age
My fingers are tingling and the Braille keeps mingling
Along with the words on the page.
Well, I loved you and I miss you, but I don't regret you
Except when the mornings are cold
Then I lie here trembling, my features resembling
A sucker with a heart of fool's gold.
Because it's
One, two, three times you left me
And
Four, five, six reasons why
I've got
Seven, eight, nine tears to cry for you
Before I find
My own perfect ten.
Because it's
One, two, three scars you left me
And
Four, five, six reasons why
I've got
Seven, eight, nine tears to cry for you
Before I find
My place in the sky.

The other night dear, as I lay sleeping
I dreamed I held you in my arms
But when I awoke, dear, I was mistaken
So I hung my head and I cried.
CHORUS:
You are my sunshine, my only sunshine
You make me happy when skies are gray
You'll never know dear, how much I love you
Please don't take my sunshine away
I'll always love you and make you happy,
If you will only say the same.
But if you leave me and love another,
You'll regret it all some day:
CHORUS
You told me once, dear, you really loved me
And no one else could come between.
But not you've left me and love another;
You have shattered all of my dreams:
CHORUS
In all my dreams, dear, you seem to leave me
When I awake my poor heart pains.
So when you come back and make me happy
I'll forgive you dear, I'll take all the blame.

How to board a train that never stops
How to kill a bird that never drops
Keep your cards til your hand runs dry
Finish doubting and close your eyes
And it's a real good way to let your body roam
And it's a real good way to keep your man at home
And it's a real good way to remember how to cry
And it's a real good way to die
How to board a train that never stops
How to kill a bird that never drops
Keep your cards til your hand runs dry
Finish doubting and close your eyes
And it's a real good way pulverize your bones
And it's a real good way to keep up with the Joneses'
No matter the cost, no matter the pain
We keep on running in the rain
How to board a train that never stops
How to kill a bird that never drops
Keep your cards til your hand runs dry
Finish doubting and shut your eyes

A Song on the End of the World
BY CZESLAW MILOSZ
TRANSLATED BY ANTHONY MILOSZ
On the day the world ends
A bee circles a clover,
A fisherman mends a glimmering net.
Happy porpoises jump in the sea,
By the rainspout young sparrows are playing
And the snake is gold-skinned as it should always be.
On the day the world ends
Women walk through the fields under their umbrellas,
A drunkard grows sleepy at the edge of a lawn,
Vegetable peddlers shout in the street
And a yellow-sailed boat comes nearer the island,
The voice of a violin lasts in the air
And leads into a starry night.
And those who expected lightning and thunder
Are disappointed.
And those who expected signs and archangels’ trumps
Do not believe it is happening now.
As long as the sun and the moon are above,
As long as the bumblebee visits a rose,
As long as rosy infants are born
No one believes it is happening now.
Only a white-haired old man, who would be a prophet
Yet is not a prophet, for he’s much too busy,
Repeats while he binds his tomatoes:
There will be no other end of the world,
There will be no other end of the world.
Warsaw, 1944
